Cal Race Week is one of the largest sailing events in Marina del Rey, CA. The Open 5.70 class showed up with 8 boats making it the 2nd largest one-design fleet at the event.
On Saturday the wind was up - 12-15 knots with some good size swells making the down wind legs a surfers paradise. With many new boats and new owners out on the race course it proved to be a more of a challenging day for some than others. The racing was close, fast and a little wet at times. Tracey Kenney dominated the fleet with a bullet in all three races.
On Sunday the wind dropped and the sea state was much calmer. The day was more about finesse and strategy than Saturday. The racing was much closer and with a very small point spread between the lead boats all the trophies were up for grabs. The father and son team of Rich & Tony Festa had a great day taking a 1st and 2nd to claim the 3rd spot overall. Tracey Kenney had a tough day finishing 5th in both races to finish 2nd overall. It was the consistency of Robert Bray and Peter Drasnin that won them 1st overall.
